And the cage is usually built from four things:
- No systems – Everything lives in your head.
- No strategy – You’re busy, but not directional.
- Poor communication – Expectations are unclear.
- No delegation – You don’t trust others with ownership.

How to Unlock the Cage
Keep it simple.

Clarify your direction. What is the business actually trying to achieve in the next 12 months? What does “enough” look like? Without this, you’ll chase everything.

Delegate outcomes, not tasks. Don’t just hand off work. Hand off responsibility. Give clear expectations and space for ownership.

Subtract before you add. More tools, more meetings, more complexity won’t fix a broken structure. Simplify first.
